This year’s contribution from the 5013C Charity Mohawk Militia is to “Youth with Faces Organization” at the Letot Center. I have teamed up with my friend Chef Charles Plummer & Chef TLC and created a culinary program for young females that are “in and out” of juvenile detention. These young ladies (17 & under) have an opportunity at finding a new passion as well as learn how to create and operate a business with THEIR ideas. The program will purchase ingredients from local farms, including Free Range Eggs from Bonton Farms. Their first venture is going to be creating…………well, its a SURPRISE! The Mohawk Militia PROUDLY has helped with purchasing the opening inventory for their business. We also hope to purchase this years NON GMO seeds for future product. We also proudly find partners to support and sell their craft!# #staytuned #payitforward #amusetheband #harderconcept
WHAT IS THE MOHAWK MILITIA?
The Mohawk Militia is a 501-3C charity founded in 2013, focused on the Power of Clean Food, from growing and sharing, to consuming healthy food. The organization operates on a “learn and earn” concept, primarily for underprivileged children and veterans in the United States. Their concentration is to provide opportunities to learn about healthy eating and to earn wages by assisting with planting of vegetable seeds and harvesting of organic crops. Currently, Mohawk Militia is partnering with Seeds of Hope, a Dallas foundation focused on helping veterans, to launch a project to build a garden on the premises of a local VA facility.
Additionally, Mohawk Militia creates awareness of the importance of clean food throughout the Dallas Metropolitan area by hosting quarterly evening entertainment events incorporating clean food awareness, fresh delicious healthy food and fun musical entertainment; all proceeds go towards Mohawk Militia’s mission of providing clean food for underprivileged children and our returning soldiers.
WHY DID I START THE MOHAWK MILITIA?
I don’ like being lied to and possibly killed honestly and hoping you probably are thinking the same. When my nephews were born, I did not want them to inherit my generation’s decisions with GMO’s. As I spent more time practicing in bands in South Dallas, the more I realized that there was a lack of grocery stores or places to buy fresh foods. At this point, I decided that this was going to become my “purpose” and came up with the Mohawk Militia.
HOW DID I COME UP WITH NAME OF THE CHARITY AS THE MOHAWK MILITIA?
How did I come up with the name you ask? Contrary to me having a Mohawk haircut, the Mohawk Indians are some of the best protectors of the land and environment. Their farming practices of crop rotation and cultivation are still the cleanest to this day. They respect the land as well as nature continuing to “give back” what they harvested. Thus, you don’t need a Mohawk haircut to join! (*grin) The word “Militia” was used because it is “a force that is raised from the civil population to supplement a regular army in an emergency.” Hence, this group of philanthropic members assembled in an emergency to protect our clean food supply, educate the masses on whats going on with our food labeling, and help feed people fresh food in food deserts. When you put the two words together, you get “The Mohawk Militia.”
WHAT IS MY VISION OF THE MOHAWK MILITIA?
To see one day laws established to protect the cleanliness of our food, banning harmful GMO’s as well as every person and child having clean, fresh, and unprocessed food readily available.
WHY DOES THE MOHAWK MILITIA MATTER?
In a time in need of change, change starts with a healthy mind, body and soul. If we allow companies to lobby our law makers, they will control our food, drugs, and ultimately the “people”. Once we modify all the pure strains of animals and vegetation, there is no reversing it. If we can not provide healthy clean food to our people, our society will continue to cruise down a down ward spiral. Life starts with the fuel we put in our body.
WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN?
First off, you don’t need a Mohawk haircut to join!! (SERIOUSLY) You should join to keep updated as well as educated on the laws being voted on allowing GMO’s into new food categories. Once we contaminate our pure strains, there is not turning back or reversing. Our bodies were never designed to ingest such “modified foods”. For example, Tomatoes with the DNA of salmon for a stronger tomato skin. We are seeing results in animal testing such “modified food” and the results are showing and proving seriously adverse effects. These companies that are making these foods are the ones making the drugs to “treat and not cure” these adverse effects when consumed. Sadly, we are one of the few countries that still allow GMO’s to be served to our citizens, even without labeling. Thus, keeping Americans trusting, “that if it is on a shelf in a market, it must be safe.”
On the same note of having clean and non-modified food, its important to see everyone have clean and fresh food readily available. Our rising obesity rate and decline in productivity in education is believed to be tied to one’s diet. Life starts with the fuel we put into our bodies!
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Every person can help by voting against GMO food bills and laws. Vermont has already won their battle by getting all GMO’s labeled on all food products purchased within the state. You can also march in your local “March Against Monstanto” Parades. Let our government know by taking action in the public! Buy and support local fresh foods and farmers practicing healthy means of growing and cultivation. If we vote with our fork, we can change the supply and demand! Spread the word to family and friends! Make donations and purchase Mohawk Militia SWAG. All donations as well as proceeds from merchandise & Amusé performances go to buying local produce. With the help of Charles Plummer, the local produce is boxed with recipes designed by local chefs conducive to low income family meals on Earth Day. They are handed out to kids at inner city community gardens with no grocery stores and live in “food deserts”.
